hotcouturewhite: Chris Columbus- RENT

hey guys, I don't know how many of you have read this interview-- it's great!

Playbill.com with Rent's director...
the most interesting thing to me:

"I thought about the possibility of making it into a film. But I had heard at the time, I think that it might have been Martin Scorsese, was involved, so obviously I'm not going to get in the way of that. And, then I heard later on that Spike Lee was involved. ... I always knew I wanted to be involved with it in some way if it was still available. I found out that it was going to NBC as a miniseries. I immediately acted upon that and said, "I don't want this thing to become homogenized in a TV version of Rent.""

Oh, and Daphne Ruben-Vega was pregnant, not too old looking, like I had thought previously.

It's not that big of a deal, I just can't stand how they focus on the "newbies." I get that it's a big deal that they didn't use all of the original cast, but like....it's done. It's over. Get over it. (directed at the general public, not you obviously hehe) And it doesn't end with articles. At all the public appearances they ask them what it's like to be with veterans and stuff. It's like they'll never be part of the group, it's just sad to me. Again, I see that it's a big thing, I was curious too why Daphne & Fredi weren't in the movie, but like...their 'replacements' are amazing. I'm so excited to see this cast as a new cast, that just happens to have 6/8 of the original main roles...I could go on all day :)

(And then there were 70283572 posts in rent/rent_the_movie about why Daphne and Fredi weren't in the movie so I thought I'd make a post about the benefit and how people thought the cast/audience would feel seeing them all together, after the release of the movie was like, six months earlier, with a somewhat different group, and someone jumped down my throat being like "blah blah I hate this post blah blah It makes me mad" and just being stupid and I was like well excuuuuse me for trying to start some Daphne and Fredi non-"omg y rnt daphne nd fredi in the moovie??? i luv them!!1!" discussion...)

/end rant :D
